Miranda House -The College I got in..!

by Nafo Media Desk

Hey!

I am Shivani and I’m a first year student of Miranda House, Delhi university. For starters, it’s an all girls college. So any of my male counterparts need not read any further unless you’re looking for a friend or your sister.

Miranda house, founded in 1948  is one of the oldest and premier institutions. It has been ranked as the no. 1 college of india for the last 4 consecutive years by NIRF and there definitely is a certain level of respect and standard that comes with the tag of being an MH student.

My college comes under Delhi university and hence all those who’ve been following the news would be aware of the outrageous cut offs they release every year as it is a matter of national debate featuring on every news platform. We’ve had cut offs rising sky high – sometimes even 100%.

Admissions into the college is based on merit. DU has several colleges beneath it but be sure not to apply to any random college just because it comes under its banner. Some are not really up to the mark. So to get into any of the most premier institutions, all we need to do is to score really well for our  12th boards. They consider the best four percentages to determine your score although the specific subject in which you want to major has to be included in it even if it doesn’t happen to be one of your 4 highest marks. (This doesn’t hold true if you just want to do B.A. programme and not B.A. honours or B.SC).

So you have to apply to Delhi university and then wait for the cut offs for the respective courses in the different colleges and then make your decision.

Try to aim for more than 96% in order to ensure at least a moderately good college in DU and that’s not too hard to achieve.

Besides, the college is situated in the North campus, surrounded by several other colleges and is known as a student friendly area.

Please remember you will find several different rankings of the colleges of DU on google but DO NOT get confused and make ill informed decisions. Only Follow the NIRF rankings as it is issued by the HRD ministry of the government and is the most reliable. The best course of action could also be to contact someone who lives in Delhi and knows about these colleges as they may be able to give you first hand information on their quality.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for colleges for any humanities or science courses, you should definitely consider this as one of your options and I assure you that it is a very well renowned academically rigorous institution with good faculty, also known for its promotion of extra curricular activities.

Wishing all my friends good luck for their board exams!

Regards,

See you there :)
